Archery Instructors and Coaches are the foundation of USA
Archery's grassroots programs, and our athlete development pipeline. Obtaining your certification not only provides you with valuable knowledge and hands-on skills, but also boosts the marketing value of you program.
Instructor and Coach Certifications are recognized by both USA
Archery and the National Field Archery Association.
Level 1 Instructor is most closely
associated with a "grassroots" program that is short-term in scope
and focused on introducing basic archery skills to beginners. Such programs
would include: camps, Scouting, 4-H, and Parks and Recreation.
Level 2 Instructor works with a more
established archery program such as J.O.A.D., A.S.A.P., college clubs and local
clubs with a strong beginner component.
A Level 3 NTS Coach is the first level where individual athlete development occurs and the person certified is now officially recognized as a Coach. High performance skill areas are now employed in a more collaborative environment with the archer athlete moving into a deeper relationship with S.M.A.R.T.E.R. goals identified and pursued. The high performance skill areas include NTS Technical Form/Shot Cycle, NTS Mental Program, Equipment Tuning, Nutrition, and Fitness.
A Level 4 NTS Coach takes coaching to a higher level where the Coach is now recognized as a 'Teacher' of Level 1, 2, and 3 Instructors/Coaches as well as training and at times traveling with student athletes to State, Regional, National, and International tournaments. Assignments to the International Training Staff (ITS) where a Coach will travel Internationally with Team USA athletes are possible along with potential promotions to become a Dream Team Coach.
A Level 5 NTS Coach is the current pinnacle coaching level where the Coach is recognized as a "Professor, or PhD's," of Level 4 NTS Coaches. The duties at this level include all Level 4 NTS Coach activities yet also include the training of Elite status athletes known as Resident Athletes (RA), who train exclusively for the summer Olympics every four years, as well as United States Archery Team (USAT) athletes, and where both RA's and USAT members compete on the international stage in World Cups, World Championships, and finally the ultimate goal of the Olympics.
